Our Story

Made to Outlast Everything You Carry It In

Officium was founded on a single conviction: the thing that protects your most-used device should outlast the device itself. This is the story of how we got here — and why the first run is limited to six pieces.

Why Officium?

We started Officium because we were tired of buying laptop sleeves that fell apart within two years. The leather cracked. The zipper broke. The lining peeled. And each time, we were right back where we started — spending money on something disposable.

The alternative — a genuinely excellent sleeve, built from materials chosen for decades of use — did not exist at a price that made sense. So we made it ourselves.

Every Officium sleeve begins with a single premise: the leather on the outside will last longer than the laptop on the inside. That changes how you think about the object. It stops being a consumable and starts being an heirloom. The sleeve you buy today is something you will still be using when you have your fourth laptop — not because of a warranty, but because of what it is made of and how it is put together.

The first production run is limited to six pieces. Not because of artificial scarcity, but because each sleeve is made to order, one at a time, by hand. Making six does not mean stopping at six — it means we are starting here, with intention, and building from demand.

No shortcuts. No approximations.

We name every material, every spec, every source. If we cannot say exactly what is inside the sleeve, we do not use it.

Exterior

Horween Derby Leather

Type Full-Grain Vegetable-Tanned
Source Horween Leather Mills, Chicago
Weight 6 oz (2.4mm)
Temper Medium
Color Mocha

Full-grain leather is the strongest cut — the outer surface of the hide, with all grain intact. Vegetable-tanned using natural tannins, it develops a rich patina over years of use. No two pieces age the same way.

Interior

840 gsm Wool Felt

Material 100% Sheep Wool
Source FilzFelt, Italy
Density 840 gsm
Thickness 3mm
Certifications 100% Biodegradable, VOC-Free

Dense wool felt cushions impact, gently polishes the screen on every slide, and does not scratch. Unlike synthetic alternatives, it is biodegradable, chemical-free, and will not off-gas into your bag. The only interior lining in this category with disclosed specs.

Why not alternatives?

Most laptop sleeves use split-grain leather (the lower layers of the hide, weaker and less durable) with polyurethane foam interiors (plastic-based, non-biodegradable, and which begins degrading the moment it is made). We use neither. The Horween Derby exterior and 840 gsm wool felt interior are not premium by accident — they are premium because they are what works.

Made by hand. Signed by the maker.

Each sleeve is handcrafted to order. The process is deliberate, slow, and not scalable in the conventional sense — which is the point.

01

Device-Specific Pattern

Every sleeve is cut to the exact dimensions of your device — not a generic size that loosely fits. When you order, you select your MacBook, Dell XPS, or ThinkPad, and the pattern is cut for that device specifically.

02

Hand Saddle-Stitching

Two needles, one thread, stitched by hand. Saddle stitching is stronger than machine stitching — when a thread breaks, the stitch does not unravel. Every seam is stitched twice for durability.

03

Burnished Edges

Every exposed leather edge is hand-burnished and sealed using a wooden slicker and beeswax. This is what gives the sleeve its clean, finished look — and the durability to handle daily insertion and removal.

04

Numbered and Signed

Every sleeve is hand-stamped with its production number and the maker's initials. The first run is limited to six pieces, each individually marked. This is not decoration — it is a record of what was made, by whom, and when.

Outlast the laptop it carries — and the next one.

When you upgrade your laptop, the sleeve stays. If the dimensions change — different model, different generation — contact us and we will resize the sleeve for free. You bought an object built to last. We will not let a new laptop break that.

Lifetime Craftsmanship

Defects in materials or stitching are repaired or replaced. No questions, no time limits.

Free Resizing

Upgrade your laptop? We resize the sleeve to fit the new device at no charge, for the life of the product.

30-Day Returns

Not what you expected? Return it within 30 days for a full refund.

The First Run

Six sleeves. Each numbered. Signed by the maker.

The first production run is deliberately small. Six pieces, each cut and stitched to order, numbered and signed. This is how we start — with a small number of pieces made with full attention, and with customers who understand what they are buying. The run will not repeat. The next production will be a different batch, a different mark.
